Catalina Island pottery was produced on the island from 1927 to 1937, and it was marked either "Catalina" or "Catalina Island."
In 1937, the Gladding McBean Company bought out the original factory, including the name, and original molds, moved the production to the mainland. Pottery made after 1937 on the mainland, is marked "Catalina Pottery," or "Made in the USA." on Catalina Island pottery However, not all Catalina pottery is marked. Original pieces made on the island tend to have a slightly rougher look, a less consistent appearance in comparison with mainland pieces.
